After 5 years of hearing stories of people who pay for products and services that they don't need and don't understand, I have decided to personally review a few things to set the record straight. 5 years ago I started building websites and promoting products, services and companies. Within 6 months I was earning more money on the internet than I was at my job. I learned and mastered the ever-vexing arts of Search Engine Marketing and Web Development.

I have heard of every internet scam and service out there. I have sold my optimization and marketing services, but quickly realized that I wanted to keep them secret due to the fact that with them I was sitting on a gold mine. Selling them would only mean that I was giving more knowledge to the competition.

Is there still money to be made on the internet?

YES! I am still amazed though at how low some of the hanging fruit really hangs. I had a really bad idea a while ago. It was to build a product site. I actually never built it. A friend ended up giving me one. After getting it I never touched it. I would process about 3 orders per month. It sat there for a year making me a small (very small) amount of money. I sort of forgot about it for a while. Then when I was telling another friend about it she did a google search to see if it came up... It was number ONE! I was completely flabergasted. I did nothing to market it and it was a very competitive topic "Laser Sights". You know... the kind you see in the Die Hard movies attached to everyone's guns. I immediately repriced my items (due to overpricing them to try to slow sales in an effort to not do any work) and the orders started rolling in. I got tired of processing orders so I sold it. I sold it to a guy lazier than I was and he did less than I did to market the site. Since selling it traffic has trippled and the site now gets over 10,000 visitors per month. All by doing nothing. What was the key? I don't know. But I can tell that making money on the internet can be pretty easy.

Why did I Start Doing This?

Two years ago I was with my wife at a friends house (letting the kids run around screaming together) and her mom walked in and we began talking. She was very interested in building a side income (like the rest of us). So she signed up with some guys in England and began trying to learn how to build, manage, promote, market and operate a website. She was over 50 years old and starting from scratch. I had been developing websites and was making a lot of money by that time. I was also very nervous that someone would figure out how I was doing it and try to steal my ideas and cut into my profits. I did not say anything to her. I just listened and said "Uh hu..." every so often.

I couldn't believe my ears. This poor woman had paid this individual $8,000 USD to teach her how to build a website that makes money. I just kept thinking that even 5 years ago I was having custom sites built and marketed for less than $200. So I listened and tried to be very positive with her so that she would not feel bad about spending 40 times too much. About a year later I followed up with my friend to see how her mom was doing with her new website. Then it all came out. The site had not made any money and her mom was now fighting to get her money back. I felt awful. There was not much I could do because the money was spent by the time I heard about the $8,000 website and training package that she bought. But, I wanted to do something to help people before they get dooped into paying for services that don't work or for services that they don't need.

We could promote our ideas, websites and online businesses without any competition. The bottom line is that we could make a lot of money. If you were in this situation would you give away your idea? Would you let other people do it for free? If you charged them to do it then how much would it cost? How much money would you need in order to let competition in and allow them to start taking over your market share? Think about these questions next time someone wants you to use their service or wants you to pay for some new marketing technique.

To this day my business partner and I keep all our ideas, research results and methods very secret. The advice that I am giving here is very simple. If you want to make money online then you will have to get ahead of the pack by doing your own research, testing and finding out. This may sound daunting but it is not that tough. By needing to actually work in order to make money it just eliminated 80% of your competition. I see people come up with million dollar ideas every day. But they don't execute them because they are too dificult. They require too much work.

So by actually doing something about your ideas you are ahead of the competition. I have also seen people that are too gung-ho about the wrong ideas. Websites and businesses that require expertise that they don't have. One that is on my mind was a website that gave away a lot of winnings and prizes in order to get traffic. (there are more details but I will spare you the anguish) from the beginning I said that they have thought of a really good idea to give away money. They however were blinded by numbers when they punched into the calculator what they thought they could make if it worked. Maybe it could have worked but they absolutely had no idea how to do it. Take small steps.

If you work in the plumbing business then there is probably something related to plumbing that you could do online. If you work in the car tire business then I would try to do something related to that. There are too many people in the tire business that want to make a leap into the plumbing business. It never works. You have to build no skills and expertise that you currently have.

If you don't know how to build a website yourself then learn. This will make ideas come alive and will stimulate your brain. You will see why some of your old ideas won't work and why others will.
